OK, I got it last night. As described above its awesome top quality you would expect from Hangar 9. Its a little smaller than I expected it seems slightly smaller than 1/4 scale I thought it was, maybe more like 1/5 scale I am guessing. My brother has a true vintage (non clipped wing 1/4 scale) that is my comparison.
So I have the Zenoah G26 Engine. The instructions on the engine say that the firewall needs to be 8MM thick to mount the Zenoah 26. I am a little concerned that this engine may be too big. I could get a 20cc or perhaps and Evolution 26GX (gasser) instead both those would fit also. I think the Zenoah 26 will fit with the room, but is the 3.3 pound engine too much engine on that firewall. I guess I could reinforce it somehow but its hard to do from the back hard to get in there it would have to be another flat plywood on the face of the firewall epoxied to it is the only way to really beef up the thickness.
Give me some help here I am new to this and the gas engines.

Your G26 should be fine. The mag version only weighs 6 oz more than the I/E which weighs 53.6 oz. The manual calls for a 20cc-26cc engine. I'm putting the new DLE 30cc on mine and it weighs 37.7 oz. What page in the manual did you see the "firewall needs to be 8MM thick to mount the Zenoah 26". I looked through the manual just breifly and didn't see that.

Zippi, its on the manual for the Zenoah G26ei. It says make sure you mount this on a firewall of plywood consisting of 8mm thick. Well, I get around 5MM thick for the firewall the best I can tell.
I am just a little nervous and reading all the manuals because I am new to giant scale and new to gas engines. I dont want it to go soft or break up on me its a $500 plane. It says 20-26cc gas but I am wondering if they meant it for 20cc Zenoah, or 26cc Evolution GX? They only show the Zenoah as the engine on the box and don't show anything at all on the firewall markings or instructions about 26cc gas. I guess they are leaving it up to us to figure out.

The manual is designed around the G20 in hopes that new people to gas like you will buy the G20 from Horizon. Mount your cowl since it is pre-drilled on the cowl and the fuse. Lay a straight edge accross the front of the cowl and take a measurement from the firewall to your straight edge. Add 1/32" to 1/16" for the gap needed between the cowl and the spinner back plate. I'll have to read the manual but I'd say they are telling you to build 8mm in front of the firewall or use stand-offs as most do. What page was all that info on?

Zippi, I understand the stand offs and the distance from the firewall to the cowl end and air gap for spinner etc. The manual in the ZENOAH ENGINE BOX clearly states that the firewall should be 8mm thick to mount the zenoah 26cc. They are not referring to the standoff depth or anything like that, but how beefy the plywood is on the firewall. Hope that clears up my question.

I mounted my cowl and took a measurement from the firewall to the front of the cowl where I had a straight edge accross the cowl and the dimension is 5 5/8" (142.875mm). I'll add 1/16" (1.587mm) for the gap between the cowl and the spinner back plate. How's the pilot look to everyone??? Looks like he has club feet .

OK Zippi thanks for the input I will go with the G26 Zenoah. I may have to get different length standoffs (shorter) for the G26 because the distance from the back to the drive washer is probably longer than on the G20.
I love the tail how it goes together...quick. The plane is nice. Hangar 9 never disappoints me as far as the kit quality.

I have not had a chance to do anything with mine except open the box and trial fit all the components. Sunday I should have some time so I'll start with the fuse and re-shrink the covering and add epoxy to all the credical points I can reach. I'll be using Hitec HS-645MG servos which I'm getting ready to order from Tower for $29.00 ea. Pretty good price. I know it's a little over kill but I like it that way. Hate for a gear to strip out or not have enough torque. Don't ask me how I know but that was years ago. I'll probably be slow on this build as I only get a little time here and there to work on it.
The G20 measures 120mm from the back of the flat mount to the end of the prop hub and the G26 measures 139mm. Since the Taylorcraft comes with 28mm stand-offs you'll need stand-offs that measure 9mm. Hope I did the math correct .

I have the cowl fastend on at the moment but I measured the firewall the other day and at the widest part of the firewall its 8". That saito 182 flat twin should really sound nice.

I did get a little work done on the Taylorcraft today and the only thing I don't like is the way the landing gear cuffs fit to the fuse. I have already split one trying to fit it all the way to the fuse. I also got to looking at the pilot that came with the plane and remembered from the review video that the pilot is suppose to be the same one that comes with the 1/4 scale cub and it's not. I have contacted Horizon about this.

I picked mine up on Friday and got it unpacked and inspected yesterday. It really looks good. There was no shipping damage, even though the box had some crushed places and a hole punched through the top. No wrinkles at all in the covering. Everything fits together well, though I haven't yet messed with the gear. I'll probably start on it tomorrow and, contrary to the sequence in manual, will do the wings first. I plan to use a solder clevis on the servo horn and the screw-on clevis on the aileron rather than the way the manual shows. I simply don't trust any control surface secured by a screwon clevis at both ends. Don't care how many jam nuts you put on there, it'd be just my luck to have one of the rods vibrate loose. The way shown is probably OK, but it's just me. I prefer the solder clevis. Then servos in the fuse and I'll mount the gear and the tail surfaces and probably will use epoxy as well as the bolts on the tail. Again, just me. Belt and suspenders. Still not sure what I'll power it with. I have an EVO 1.0 NIB, and the new EVO 120 looks tempting, particularly at $70 less than the OS 120 2-cycle. Wonder how those will fit the predrilled firewall holes, if at all.

Here are a couple more pics. I'm as far as I can go until my servos get here which I ordered today and Ralph get my DLE 30cc finished. Once all the wing struts are in place it makes everything very strong. This plane is like a little tank .

What motor is everyone going with. Also has anyone tried these XYZ engines, I have heard they are little down on power but thats not going to be a problem if I use the 26cc one. I think it will still have plenty of go in it.
