RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I took some advice earlier in this forum on CG. Rather than adding a ton of lead with my G20, I added a few ounces only and balanced at a more AFT CG location than the book amount. I do not...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I am using a 15-8 wooden prop on the Zenoah G20. Its got plenty of power for this Taylorcraft to do about anything except 3D hovering.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Mobyal, I have mine at 4" and it flys good. You can definately go to 4". I didnt want to push it to 4 1/8, but I think you could..no more than that. Just going to 4" should get you a good amount...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

If you are using the zenoah ignition you are playing with fire. 1500 mah is nothing 2 flights you will be about done. You should have 2700 MINIMUM for the ignition I am using 4500, that is only good...

I can tell you for sure the G20 is going to have enough power not going to be an issue.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Looks good Zippi. I finally got mine done today. I ran the Zenoaha 20cc. I am getting about 9,300 on it on a 15 x6 prop. It seems a little high on the RPM,s I have heard that these gas engines...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I got the canopy on last night. What I did was trimmed alot of the black off at the bottom of it and then glued it and taped it all the way around and it looks good, it actually didnt fit as bad as...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Lotsocrashes,
Ditto on the G26 install in that plane. I bought one because they said 20-26cc, but the G26 was a joke installing. They should have provided an instruction and made it easier for...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Leedees..well put on the crash. Lotsofcrashes I would pick up a cheap J-3 cub with a .46-60 motor on it and fly it for a while to get used to the characteristics, which would be very much like a...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Yes, lotsofcrashes what Zippi said for the most part, but its not just because its a gasser, if you had a glow engine on and it quit then the result would be the same. You probably need to use more...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Pettit, can you at least comment on the power of the G20 in that plane? Good power, or was it a little underpower? It should be a real gas sipper. I imagine that 17 ounce tank you can fly a long...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Pettit...looks good in the air! About the wheels, I was wondering. My brother has a larger 1/4 scale Tcraft (non clipped wing) and he is flying it with 4 1/2 inch wheels. The kit came with 3"...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Leedees, it looks like you put foam on either side of the ignition box on the two long sides and then left an air space in the middle for cooling, is that right

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Leedees, it looks good. I count about 36 segments of lead, or 9 ounces from what I can see in the picture. Plus 3 ounces in front of your prop = 12 ounces. How did you come up with 1 lb 2 oz which...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

My G20ei came in last night. I mounted it on the firewall quickly and threw my batteries in and hung the ignition box cowl and prop on the front to get a quick balance reading. It is going to be...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Leedees, last night I checked there is room for both battery packs beside the tank. If you install them first with your hand through the fuel tank hole then push them over on each side and then...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I assume one could put a few mm more of standoff on the engine and get the motor forward. I would expect 1/8" forward on the engine would make up for A LOT of lead. I know the cowl holes are...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Dick, you said 28% is that with the Zenoah 20ei engine and no lead on it? Also what is 28% in inches from the leading edge at the fuselage root wing? How are you sure this is conservative?

...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Al...you make a lot of good points. If you arent a veteran "gasser" its a royal P.I.T.A. changing fuel lines, different ignitions, batteries, weight, making standoffs etc. and the extra cost of gas...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Zippi I am in the same boat as you waiting for G20 engine to come Monday or Tuesday. I scrapped the G26 I could have used it but too much modifying. If the G20 isnt enough power I will change it to...
