RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

In a rare and amazing run of good luck, I've got more than fifty flights with the vertical stab struts looking the same as the day I installed them. Maybe I am a better builder than the rest of you...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Well Old Fart, you make a fine point. I have posted in this thread my troubles with the G20 having purchased two of them for the same TC. I'll just say if I had it to do over again there would be a...

Moki, what is that you have around the gear fairing against the fuse?

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

The CH ignition, the only afternarket one I have experience with, is superior to the Zenoah supplied unit.

The reduced power consumption alone is probably worth the 100 bucks.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Glenn,

The ethanol in the fuel definitely impacts the engines, in my area those fuel additives are used to help offset it.

I would accept the rest of your needle twisting advice if it were...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

GentleBen,

I suspect your needle settings, if at factory spec, are not the problem.

My first G20 did exactly the same thing, I have had nothing but trouble with Zenoah G20 dead sticks in...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Congrats and a very nice video too gehr2box!

It appears that Saito makes more power than the G20 in my TCraft. If I was building it again I would mount a Saito.

How do you like the power with that motor?

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I posted earlier in this thread about troubles with the Zenoah G20 in my Taylorcraft. I did finally get the overheating issues sorted out but after about twenty more flights I still was not happy...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Here's a couple more I no doubt gleaned from Joe Mamma's collection. I may have posted these earlier. Notice the other beautiful TCraft in the background.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I don't doubt you a bit Lifer. I am of the same mind about flying the TC as scale as possible. It just looks great like that.

You might enjoy this 15 min airshow clip featuring a clipped wing...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

That's a fair description of the TC. The touch and go's are somehow more beautiful with this one. I haven't flown it in that much wind but it has become my go to airplane for breezy days.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Yup. When I heard the squeeky wheels on touchdown with my TC I remember thinking how the heck could anything be coming loose already. That was a first for me.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Skip,

It makes sense to me. With the G20 the cylinder is hanging straight down whereas your cylinders are directly behind the intakes. fyi below are some comments earlier in the thread from...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Glenn,

The airframe designers take the variable fuel load into consideration when calculating the CG they recommend at zero fuel. The airframe can compensate for nose heavy much easier than...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Glenn,

You got it, if it takes 12 oz on the nose to set level at a CG of 3 3/4 inches that's what you need.

My setup required 14 oz of lead in the nose to balance at the recommended CG. ...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

willig10,

If you set the CG to 4 inches you will be more tail heavy. Exactly on the recommended CG or slightly nose heavy is much safer.

Like the guy once said, nose heavy planes fly,...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

So much of the cooling in glow engines comes from the high oil content of the fuel you may be ok but I would be paying attention because not much air will be moving through the cowl with the intakes...

willig10,

Zippi is spot on. The maiden flight of a beautiful new plane is exciting and great fun for everybody there. We'll be watching this thread to hear how the Taylorcraft flew for you.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Howard,

It's too pretty to ever leave the hangar! You're going to love it in the air though. Where did you get the decal for the pilot name on the side? That is a nice touch.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Howard,

Sorry to go off topic but I am very interested in your Aeroworks Cessna 195. I know it's a lot of work but could you do a build thread on it? Soft drinks and sandwiches would be nice...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Glenn, I see I must have read it wrong.

If your Zenoah EI is the same power hungry one on the G20 I would fly with a fresh charge on the 1500Mh battery.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Mobyal, you all had me in a panic about the tail braces but not a single problem with the tail braces here after 30-40 flights and I don't exactly fly her like an old lady. This is not typical of my...
