RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Good to hear your first flight was a success. I do agree, it's a nice and relaxing model to fly. Gentle, scale-like aerobatics, or just puttering around the pattern doing touch-and-go's. Wish they...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Don't worry, it's only light ply. Not a big deal-breaker there. Drill a couple of 1/4" holes under there, or take a sharp #11 blade and make a small rectangular hole to feed your servo wires...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

It does indeed! Not over powered and likely more scale-like flying with the 20. I imagine it would be quite overpowered with something like a DLE-30, but to each, his or her own! Plus, the way it...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Maiden flight of my T-Craft with the DLE-20 yesterday. A day before, ran a full tank of fuel on the ground and found that the engine was overheating a little, even with an opening in front of the...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I'll also keep you posted on how she flies with the DLE-20. yes, it is a pretty clean installation and should provide about the same level of power as the Zenoah 26 powered T-Craft. I also have a...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Haven't flown mine just yet. Pretty mild winter in Southwest Michigan, but very few days above 50 degrees here. How did you equip your T-Craft, engine wise?

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Not a lot of room on the wing for flaps. Have you considered flapperons, if you have the mixing capability on your receiver/transmitter? The only problem with flapperons, is particularly on final...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Thanks for the heads-up Ya33a regarding the cable ties and the ignition shielding. I'll put some more protective wrap around it and not keep the ties to tight. I've had to send one engine back to...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Neat video. Great airborne shots also.

OK, going to attach some photos. May have to post in more than one message to get them in. Let me know if the photos help. This first set is of the...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

SS,

You may not want to get a side-carb DLE-30, as DLE stopped production and went to a rear-carb model as so many people had these engines that would not run well. DLE was also marketing a...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

SS,

I'll post some photos tonight when I get home from work.

One thing I had to do was to not push the fuel tank all the way forward so that the stopper area does not go into the round hole...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Good idea Joe. Any photos of your setup? I've used the after-market arms and they work quite well. Wish the choke arms had a screw holding them onto the brass axle, as opposed to them being peened...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Not a bad idea. We've got at least three more monts of winter to come here. I'll pop the cowl and see if there's a better way to activate teh choke, possibly out the side of the cowl.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Thanks for the info O.F. No asphalt runways here to fly off of, but I did keep the foam tires and wheel pants in the event I come across a nice smooth runway. Would love to hear the tire "chirps." ...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Finishing up my Christmas present. Installed a new DLE-20 in the business-end with a Xoar 18X6 prop. I've used that combination before and it's worked quite well. 12.8 oz. lead ingot (painted...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Thanks Steve. It appears that you have the DLE-30 installation well figured out. I'll keep you posted on my build.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Thanks Steve. Sounds like a little modifications behind the firewall will be in order.

My calculations show that the DLE-30 will extend out about a half-inch further than the Zenoah 20. Any...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Thanks Lifer and Joe.

I'm definately leaning to the 30, as long as I can get the cowl extended far enough forward with enough "material" to get mounting screws into the forward fuselage area. ...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Thanks Steve.

I figured the DL-30 would require less lead in the nose for balance than the DL-20, but provide an obscene amount of thrust. Sounds like the cowl can be mounted further forward...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Going to assemble a TC this holiday. I have a DLE-20 and rear-carb DLE-30 lying around. Looks like the standoffs on the 30 will push the prop-washer too far out in front of the cowl. The 20 should...
