RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Look back a few posts and omit the word "videos". That's where you'll find the details on the publication

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

FYI, Taylorcraft procrastinators.

There is a full review online with videos.

I am not allowed to say exactly where it is, but I wrote it and you can figure the rest out by yourself.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I used the TT adapter and had to cut almost 1/2" off the prop stud. It's really long but on a prop with a thin hub thickness, it's necessary

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Flew my T-Craft last Sunday. Did great balanced at 4.25" behind LE. No unwanted maneuvers.

Quite aerobatic and lands fine. Wheels may drag a bit in the grass.

Full review in the next...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

No head standing for me. Just drilled 4 holes, managed to get those @#$%^&* blind nuts behind the firewall and bolted the G20EIin place.

Maybe 20 minutes tops and the engine was up and...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

A Dremel tool and a HDcut-off wheel and about 30 seconds and Ihave the correct length prop stud.

My TTspinner fits most of the props I plan to use but I had to ask for the "120 cut" when Iordered...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Hangar 9 must have switched horses in mid-stream. The instruction manual and the box cover both say "13 to 14.5 pounds", and so did the web site listing, up until a few days ago.

It now says...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Interesting. I followed the manual 100% and both of my batteries (2400 maH 5 cell and 4500 maH 4 cell) fit exactly where they show in the book.

I even relocated the ignition battery more...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

28% comes out to 4.16" behind the leading edge.

25% is 3.714".

25% is just a starting place and is pretty conservative. 30% would probably not be out of the question, but not to start...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Just wait until you try to get the tie wrap through the firewall that holds the ignition unit in place.

TWO TIMES YET!!!

If you set the CG at about 28%, a very conservative figure, no...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Yes, it's tight at first but once a little gas and oil gets between it and the brass tube it gets as slick as a peeled onion!

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Be advised that if you re-plumb the stock tank with Tygon tubing and secure it with the tie wrap as described in the manual, it will probably fall off, resulting in less-than-adequate engine...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Try cutting about a half an inch off the engine (G-20 in my case) prop shaft.

My TT 2.5" fits 16-6 APC, 17-6 APC and a few more.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Just take out the plate, solder the hole in the plate closed and replace the plate.

The hole lets in too much air when you are trying to choke the engine and prime it.

It was used on...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

This note is from my friend, neighbor and former full scale aerobatic pilot, Wayne Parrish:

The original factory T-Crafts had yokes. The clipped versions had sticks.

So the conversions...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I am doing a review on both the T-Craft and the engine, so I had to use the Zenoah ignition.

But once those are complete, I will be doing some user testing on the CH ignition with adjustable...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Yep, a few screws hold it in place.

I'm checking on the control stick thing now, but the full scale T-Craft I flew in had side-by-side seating with a pair of sticks.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

One more hint to those of you using the Zenoah G-20 engine. Take the choke plate out of the carb and solder the hole shut. Otherwise it will not pull much fuel at all.

BTW, my CH ignition...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

They all put out a very strong spark, but the Zenoah uses a LOT more battery power in doing so.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

There is one idea that comes to mind. CH sells a bolt-on ignition system that will replace the power grabbing Zenoah box and can be mounted right against the firewall.

2.5 amps vs. 400ma? You...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Same thing here, but I just put a little twist in the hose after cutting it a bit longer than for a direct run.

Should not present a heat problem, but keep the bends as large as you can.

Be...
