RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

John, Very nice pics of the Taylorcraft flying. Yes, gas is certainly a much cheaper fuel than glow and the 20cc size engines don't burn much of it and it is much easier to clean up after flying. I...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I'm not adverse to using the features. I've the older Hanger 9 Taylorcraft, which is a little given to tip stalls. It now has ailerons trimmed up at low throttle setting to simulate wash out as...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I agree. A recent plane build (not the Taylor Craft) had a problem. Power on and power off trim were not the same. In that instance, the plane would dive under power or if trimmed for power, the...

papparossi... very nice looking plane... if it flies as good as it looks... I understand why you are anxious to fly again soon.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Y'all got me chuckling. I don't much like clean up but I don't much like airplanes that don't sound like airplanes either so personally I've chosen not to go electric. I'd never however, suggest to...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I did some checking and the 182 would completely fit within the cowl on center line if it were some how equipped with a prop hub extension so as to be located closer to the fire wall, though I don't...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

While yes the cowl and windscreen are different from the older version T-Craft, if a rebuild of the front end is in the mix, they can be made to work by narrowing F2 to the same width as F3.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Glenn... I was surprised at your posted weight of the T-Craft. I've the older version that has now been rebuilt a couple of times using the cowl and windscreen for the newer version and it now...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I just saw Randy's question about whether a 182 twin would work. I happen to have both a 182 twin in the box and a cowl for the T Craft so did some checking. The answer is yes, the 182 will fit but...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Dale.... I commiserate with you. A few years ago I had an aerobatic project and chose to engine it with a YS - 120. Who knows if the YS was simply just too high strung for my skills but I couldn't...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I've both a Saito 1.25 and a Zenoah G-20 and they are very closely matched with the Saito only slightly stronger at abt 9,300 vs 9,000 for an APC 16x6. One observation about the video above is that...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I think a 16x8 would fly, but I'd compare the performance to a 16x6 to determine favorable.

As to the performance of the G-20, I've the older Hanger 9 Taylorcraft weighing 15.75 lbs and it...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

This is one of those times when the words, "think outside the box" are applicable. We tend to think of air as being related to the intake air of the engine (the box).

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

The problem is relative to gas carbs only. Within the carb, there is a diaphram with a center button that leverages the float needle. The leverage on one side is atmospheric pressure via the little...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Lotsofcrashes.... Yes, the worst case would be at full rpm and full speed, and the motor would go rich and produce noticeably less power, maybe even four stroking. In actuality what happens is...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Lotsofcrashes, A G-20 is like all the other gassers, it has a carb with a fuel pump that uses atmospheric pressure for a base reference for the fuel mixture. Mess with that base pressure and the...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

If the inside the cowl air pressure rises because of inadequate outflow at high rpm, then it causes the carb diaphram to push on the anvil of the float needle and thereby richening the engine usually...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Horizon had the cowls on sale not long ago for $20... all painted and ready to go. I agree that raising the cowl should help a lot as I recently installed a G-23 using the new cowl on an older...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Or the other way around... it could be either way, the newer cowls might have the baffles built into the glass. At any rate, it has become well established that outflow area has to exceed inflow...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I think the baffles intentionally don't fit flush and are painted mat black to appear to not to be a surface part of the cowl. Tape them in place and add some silicone to secure.

I don't have...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Lotsofcrashes... Mate, your quite right about a rebuild, one needs the inclination, time, tools, and space to perform them. A rebuild can be an interesting and rewarding but less so if it is a...
