RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I got mine when the ARF version first came out, so it's at least 4 yrs old. I have the OS120ax in it and it's absolutely the perfect engine for the airplane and my flying style. Yes I had to add...

Zach
If I remember right, they're the buttonhead 4-40s. I'm not in my shop now but I can check tomorrow. Sockethead 4-440s'll work fine. Think I have a couple of those on mine. Try a 4-40 and...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

One of the neatest things about this airplane is the full-scale "chirp" sound from the tires (I have Sullivan Lites on mine) on the asphalt runway when I slip it in for landing.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Yep.
I know it sounds funny but I have the OS120AX w/ Pitts-style muffler and have little if any cleanup after flying. It's not zero but not nearly as much as I thought it would be; mainly the...

I have been flying mine for 2 years w/ an OS 120AX, 16x8 prop (whatever the grey plastic one is, can't remember right now) and TruTurn spinner. It took 14oz to balance right at the...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Well, it's the same airframe, but the bind and fly has the engine, fuel tank, servos. receiver and battery included in the price and already installed. So all you do is bind the receiver to your...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I don't know how many flights I have on mine, probably in the range of 25+. One of mine broke on the first or second flight, but that wasn't the same issue as I've seen here. On mine the strut...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I understand the point. But the question is, I guess, whether one wants to fly the airplane or spend lots of time and money fiddle-f***ing around w/ the engine trying to make it work. And if we're...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Solve all these "gasser" problems as follows:

1. Mount an OSD 1230ax w/ Pitts style muffler; hook up the throttle cable. Add one 2 3/4" Tru Turn spinner and APC 16x8 prop. Takes about 30...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Good luck to you. (According to my converter 7kg=15lbs 7oz. Isn't this a great airplane?).

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

That ought to work well. Second tank on the CG, hardware on the firewall if it'll fit. How much does your weigh w/o the system? Mine flies great at 14 lbs 3oz w/ a pound of weight in the nose for...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

OR you can get an OS120AX, which is one of the engines designed in the prototype. It takes about 10 minutes to install it on the firewall, no mods necessary to engine mount, firewall or anything...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Spoke w/ Horizon re the tail braces. They're sending me a new set under warranty. When I get them I'll use the mods suggested.
Thanks for the info on the squeaky wheels. I'm gonna keep 'em...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Yesterday was a great flying day here in VA. Not TOO Hot, low and mid 80s, low humidity, very light winds. Got four more 12-15 min flights on the T'Craft. I really do like this airplane, and so...

What's your all up weight w/ that engine? Did you need to add any noseweight for balance?
Thanks

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I use the JR Sport 126MGs on all the control surfaces hi torque and they sell for about $36 each. Standard ST47 on the throttle. Have them on a number of airplanes and never have had a problem.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Kind of a short day today w/ mine. As I was leaving the shop for the field and messing w/ the radio I managed to clear out ALL the settings, trims, high rates, low rates, expo, differential,...

I'm just curious. Has anyone who is NOT flying a gasser had the tail brace failure?

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Finally got to maiden mine on Monday. Three good flights before "congestion" got too bad and storms came up. I really like the way this plane flies. At 14lbs 3oz, with a pound of weight in the...
