RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Hi Paul,

I agree with you on baffling rather than opening up a major gap in the cowl.
I have just finished baffling the cowl on my 87" YAK but with their wide open front and limited read...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Hey Beaver,

I like the way you have done the air exit duct and the exhaust! Looks very good.
These Tundra wheels, are they for that New Zealand snow? :)

By the way, I will be on your side...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

What have you guys who are running gassers in the Taylorcraft done to ensure decent cooling of the engine?
The instructions in the manual seem inadequate to me.
Have you baffled the cowl, or...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

A light coat of Petroleum Jelly or similar on the axles will fix the squeak nicely

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

The plane is here and it does look good!!!
While I was away during the week, a brand-new G20 also arrived, bought from an Ebay seller in Hong Kong. IT was here 3 days after I paid for it. Now, what...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Hey Beaver,

I have bought from Singapore Hobbies in the past. They are great!

I have e-mailed them re the Beaver floats but I also suspect the Cessan floats will work

Thanks for that

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

G'day John,

Many thanks for your summary of the ASP160
At the moment, they are up for sale on Hobby City for some $330 which is extremely cheap.

I have been reading up on them a fair bit...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

ya33a,

Thanks for that mate. Do you know anything about those engines in terms of quality etc?
My only experience with ASP is a 91FS I have had for a while and the valves keep getting stuck.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

I have been snooping around various sites that sell four strokes and saw an ASP160 twin (apparently a clone of the Magnum 160 twin).
I wonder if it will fit inside the cowl of the Taylorcraft?

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Hey Paul,

Good to have a "neighbour" doing one almost the same way as I'll be doing mine. That way, I can learn from you :)

A mate used to have the old and bigger Taylorcraft on a Saito 180...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Well, after much deliberations, I finally bought one of those planes.
There seems to be absolutely no stock in Australia except there were two of them in a shop in Melbourne and I pulled the...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Hi Anthony,

Nice setup you have.
Surprisingly, the cylinder head coming down through the cowl doesn't really take much away from the looks of the plane.
I don't know if it would have...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

ya33a:

I gather this is a gas engine?
Do yourself a favour and never run them in an airframe without the wings attached.
The wings help suppress or absorb the vibrations from the engine and...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Thanks Zippi,

I guess the trick is to get the plane and see which engine fits best

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

This is another reason why I tend not to buy their planes.
If you are disappointed with Horizon locally, try to contact their overseas importers. Just don't rely on the care factor

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Hi Dale,

Thanks mate, I really appreciate the heads-up on this.
I won't be getting one at this stage though because I have already put my $$$ into another bird.

Enjoy yours
