RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Not an uncommon issue with the Zenoah carbs. I usually make an extension from aluminum or G10, there are commercial products available also. I think PSP is the name of one of them, it's a clamp on...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

This is a shot in the dark but the fact that it's ok with the cowl off gives me the idea that it's airflow related, either something to do with the carb inlet or the vent on the carb itself. I'd...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Richening it even a fair amount is not going to reduce the temps much in my experience. Does it get so hot that it sags or performance suffers?

The G20 in my Cub is really hot after a 40 minute...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Depends what motor you have, how you fly, ambient temps etc. The H9 guys determined that some people might have cooling issues in their local environment, so included the baffles.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Should have been a black cowl baffle in the kit.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

That's a better way to do it for sure, changes to the fuselage length (if any) would be minor. Makes it a little less than 25% by my calculations.

I believe H9's intent was to make the...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Not sure if Jim Moss has the same clip on his airplane as Warren Pietsch does, but if so the span would be around 22 feet. That puts the H9 airplane at about 30%.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Wing tube is plenty strong for flight loads, and easy to replace. Better than tearing the guts out of the plane.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

There is some room to move the cowl, it doesn't locate to a recess on the fuselage. It can't go aft much further because it will hit the windshield. Can go forward until you run out of edge distance...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

It's about 5 7/8 in from the firewall to the face of the drive washer of the G20.

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

1500 will run the Zenoah ignition for a little less than an hour. Adequate for at least two flights if you keep an eye on it. Cell type/quality will be a factor also, 2/3A's will perform better than...

RE: It's here and Looks GOOD new Hangar 9 Taylorcraft

Remember that the Taylorcraft represents a clipped wing version, it's not going to have anywhere near the same floatiness as a Cub of similar span. My 80" H9 Cub on floats has plenty of power with a...
