RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

An open response to Duane's open letter:

Duane, you are a machine!! I'm glad I don't work for you, I drive myself hard enough!

Yes, the Taurus II will start soon enough. But, I need to...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Duane,
Great posts chronicling our "covert" mission. I wanted to make a correction, the Top Flite kit is .25 inches taller than Ed's original.

It was bitter/sweet to see it hang in the...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Hello everyone, just a note to let you guys know we're back. The wife and I had a 25th anniversary/vacation in Aruba and I took last week off from designing just to get some things done around the...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Ok guys, everyone has an opinion, so let's hear yours. Of the three Simla fuses shown below, which is the closest? Page 51 has all of the quartering photo shots of the Simla. Compare, think, express!...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Big enough for that OS 90 you may be thinking about!!

Somewhere around 4" (at least) tall and 3-3/4" wide

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Here you go guys, the big picture on the Simla. Laser cut files are on the left, with development rib drawings in between the wing planform and the laser files. You can also see the first attempt at...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Duane,
Congratulations!! You guys are much braver than I but, I guess you could call it a "historic moment". How many years do you think its been since that plane has been in the air? Looks like you...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Duane,
I don't have the Orion article in front of me but I believe Ed flew the (or another) modified Astro Hog in 1958. He mentions his travails with the Astro Hog in that article. The article also...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Maybe these pictures are posted elsewhere on the thread (who knows?). They are pictures of Duane's modified Taurus that he brought to a vintage radio control society gathering a few year ago. ...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Ok, here is a drawing showing both versions of the 95" wing. The top wing shows 3 inches taken off of the root and 1/2 inch taken off of the wingtip.

The bottom wing shows 3 inches taken off...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

As I mentioned in post 1512, it's hard to believe that Ed would have cut off the root. As Ray mentioned, there are myriad things to do when cutting off the root. The biggest one being, did he...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Ok time for a break - so how many of you have gone to google and typed in Simla? Just as mentioned earler in the thread - once a town, now a city area within India which is a tourist attraction! ...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

As Duane mentioned, the wing is coming along well. Both wingspan drawings are complete and it's just a matter now of applying the final details, insuring the tube/rib orientation is applicable to...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Burkhard, what is the area of your 102" wing, with the large ailerons, excluding the fuse? ...and just for clarification, are you including the wing tips within the calculated area?

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

I can go with the 96", trim 3" off of each tip. As I wrote earlier, the mods can be shown on the drawing (whether its 102/96 or 96/102).

Assumption: we're just lopping off the last three...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Duane,
Add #6 to your post 1508...the Veco ad in 1966 where Ed's open letter mentions a 96" span plane. When I brought this up earlier we more or less decided to go with the 102" (didn't we?). ...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Another surprise for you Duane?

Well, Vic came out with the King in '67. The Cream Puff fin/rudder looks a lot like the King fin/rudder. Which came first the Altair series or the Creamy...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Michael,
Do you remember where the Simla placed in the 1965 Willow Grove Nats? Duane and I were trying to figure out exactly which events the Simla won.

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

I'm going to include a solid and built up aileron option in the kit. I like the solid because you can taper it near the wing tip and not worry about getting into the hollow space of the built up...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Evan,
I had actually drawn the le on the aileron spar as you described and didn't like it. It seemed the le spar was disproportionately small. The details can be worked out. I was just looking...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Burkhard, speaking of being busy as a bee, you've been busy. The dimensions on the fuse look great. It'll give me/us plenty to think about and draw.

Duane and I have had a few phone...
