Probably the Me109, torque roll killed a lot of Me109 pilots before they learned to hold a little aileron and rudder as they lifted off.

They wouldn't use it because you get sleepy and less observant when you are too warm and comfortable. Not a good thing when trying to keep Zero's from slipping in on your six.

Just guessing, but it might have been that 12' to 15' was about the largest width that could be sqeezed on a rail car, so the wing roots couldn't be much wider than that, thus the span couldn't be...

I think its a glider like the ones used in WWII. And If I remember correctly, they could be deployed by towing behind a fighter or other support craft or drop launched from under the wing of a bomber...

I'm guessing it was the raised horizontal stab that got the control surfaces out of the shock wave?
