RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Is it time to start a separate Simla thread? How about calling it:

"A recreation of the only Simila on Earth"

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Found it! The article is "Rediscovering the Nixie", published Winter 1996 by the log of Mystic Seaport. Author Charlie Storrow (a friend of mine) used a perspective vanishing point projection to...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Duane,

It is entirely possible to get true dimensions from a photograph taken at an angle, ship modellers have been doing it for years. Somewhere I have kept the article that explains it, I...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

I know what he was referring to. It's just a joke, OK?

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

I still prefer "cover girl" - the words make me happy. What if RCM ran the article instead of MAN?

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Duane,

Those plans are VERY interesting! The first thing I notice is that the nose looks shorter and pointier than the kit version.

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Hi Duayne,

very interesting. What you call SFGs may actually be an attempt to reduce tail weight. Tip plates have the effect of increasing the effective Aspect ratio by reducing tip vorticies....

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

I have faithfully followed this thread with much interest, the Taurus could easily be called the Father of all modern pattern. Seeing the "originals" (plural intended) still around is a rare treat. ...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Regarding Post #352, I just noticed.........

The Horizontal stab is AIRFOILED, not diamond, as the origional Taurus was. More experimentation? And, it's FAT.

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

The plane is a P-51. It looks like what is behind Ed is a ground-based dipole transmitter antenna.

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Observing post# 207 - The first two wing shots are the same plane. The second two wing shots are of a different plane. Look at the numbers in relation to the red pinstripe.

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

I went to school next to Bethlehem steel company (Lehigh U) so I suppose I remember blast furnaces, but cannot recall with certainty.

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Very interesting video. "A" farmland, of course. Other observations:

It was very very windy.
looked cold, too.
No requirement for a rounded nose nut
poor crowd planning by today's safety...

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

1963 = 14 for me. I still have that MAN magazine. I was in love with the plane and paint scheme.

RE: Ed Kazmurski's Taurus

Just a spectator, please. I had a Taurus back in the late 60's, it was my first competition plane. First contest I ever entered, got a 3rd in Class"A"
