Desert Fox,

Congrats on the successful maiden. Looks fairly stable once the trims were adjusted. What broke on landing?

My F4e should be shipping soon. Factory is finishing final touches on the drop tanks.

Hello Jeff,
Garey used a plastic arm on the steering servo. It broke, he should be replacing it with a metal arm.

Cheers!

Were there gear issues? Looked like they did not retract but I was watching on my Iphone. The F4 is such a great flying machine. I have 2 of the same size as yours. Enjoy!!!!

Hello Kevin,
The left gear strut door was keeping the left gear from retracting. I spoke of it in the description for the video.

Cheers!

Hi Guys… My F4 should be arriving soon.. Plan to install a drag chute .. I was told this size (1:7.5) doesn’t have a factory (SM) chute mechanisms. Any suggestion on chute mechanisms ?

Thank you

Glad to see another F4 will be out here. Which scheme did you order? Mine is coming soon as well. It just cleared customs yesterday in Los Angeles. Should have it Monday or Tuesday.
I am designing a chute mechanism for my 1/9.5 scale F4e and will probably scale up for the 1/7.5 scale. Both of my F4s are in the Thunderbird scheme.

Hi Jeff .., I got mine in the “Diamond Back” scheme to match my F18 and F14. I would really be interested to see how you do the chute mechanisms.. Hope you can make one for me to purchase ..

Paint shop messed up the white step by the stab and had to repaint it. See next pic

Corrected the paint on fuse where the white meets the metal paint by the stab.

That is a nice looking scheme. Did you do single or twin? I ordered mine as a twin. I will make you one to purchase once I get it sorted out. RC Jet Chutes is making my chute. He did a great job on my smaller F4 chute. When did you order yours?

I ordered mine in January, glad to see yours is being done quicker. I did order some changes to mine. Mainly had to do with the paint shop getting the scheme closer to the real Thunderbirds.
i am not sure which turbines I will use. I exclusively use Kingtech, but now some want me to try Ace. I plan to go with twin 120s as well.
I am using Jeti as well. CB220, rex 12, r3, r900, cortex pro, and Savox servos.

I am curious about the air actuated nose strut. That will be nice for increasing angle of attack for take off. I want to figure out how to do operational canopies for mine.

All will be on air. Using Xicoy air valves and Jeti sequencer for canopy.. nose strut air at “Take Off” flight mode.. with Jeti all is so simple… And of course will have an onboard air pump Jeti controlled 😀

Do you have a link to the Matrixx air actuated nose strut?

I'm glad to learn there are other twin projects coming. Mine is a twin also. I was strongly warned against doing a twin because it is supposed to be too heavy but I couldn't resist. I just wanted a twin Phantom! This is actually my 2nd twin Phantom project. I have the 1:6th also in the sale colors.

This is scheduled to have twin JetCat P130RX engines for the heartbeat and JR Elite for guidance.

Some of the guys on here were trying to talk me out of doing a twin as well. I have a 1/9.5 scale Extreme F4e that I am building as a single with a K142g4 in it. The turbines have gotten lighter, smaller, and more responsive, so running twins is not going to be much different in weight compared to a large single. Plus if you get the new airex composite, the jet is lighter than previous versions.
What size turbines did you use in your 1/7.5 jet?
I would like the 1/6, but limited for space and figuring out how to get these larger jets to the field is going to be challenging for me. I do not have a van or trailer. Currently my F250 is working well fir my 6 foot jets, but not sure with my new F4e and my Fei Bao 1/7 F15e.

A funny thing happened to me on Friday. My jet arrived at LA customs on Wednesday and there had been no movement. After seeing it sit for another couple days, I called and spoke to an agent there. He informed me that my box is in the Customs bomb area. After being a little confused, then realizing that I have the wing tanks in the box that could look like missiles or whatever else they think. I explained it to them and after that it was released and now moving again. Hope to have it tomorrow.

My 1:6th was earmarked for P220 RXIs but I'm reconsidering downgrading to P180RXI. I heard rumored that JetCat is planning a P180 RXI Pro version. If so, I will likely go with that option.

The 180 engines are plenty big for this twin

Default Thunderbird F4e

Excited my F4e arrived and so far most seems to have survived the trip. Still going through and checking the hardware. One thing I noticed is it seems the ailerons and flaps have external control linkages. I thought they are internal on this one. Not a big deal, but was looking forward to not seeing them under the wing.
I appreciate John, Anton, and their team for doing a great job.
