Going back to Shawn’s question about doors: since the doors are all open on the F4 with the gear down I simply Td the door open line into gear down. Then I use a single action xicoy valve to close the doors. You still end up with four connections (gear up, gear down/doors open, door close and brakes). Works great for things like this, F16, MiG 15 etc.

I did FM on the tail too. Lots of work but looks great with some effort. The discoloration that starts to happen really churches it up too

As for the inner main door issue: the cylinders SM uses are way too small and the angle was terrible (ie geometry). I tried all kinds of things and finally replaced them with 1” BV cylinders with good geometry and the problem went away. I still struggle with one of the outer little doors. I need to put a slightly bigger spring on it but have been lazy

Sorry guys, I had posted all those pics last page. My apologies

I intended to install the opening cockpits so I had to install my cockpit tub from underneath the rails (then D4S went away before I got the open cockpit kit). That left me without an easily removeable cockpit so all my connections had to be in the main hatch

to remove my cockpit I have some crossbar supports that key into little wood L brackets I put on the sidewalls. I come up through the nose gear opening, pop the crossbars loose, then split the fuse and pull the cockpit out the aft section of the forward fuse. Total PITA..especially since I didn’t end up with the opening cockpits

Here is my f100. I used flitemetal as a base and then sanded that and then did the bvm hot section paints over the top. These have to be cleared in but give you the result you want by adding more of the blues and red dye

Rub it in! Yes THAT's what I was going for. I think I'll keep messing with it. I used some violets and blues, but I think I dulled them too much with the 'jet exhaust' overspray. I'll keep plugging at it. That first attempt was only an hour of my life, so I think I can probably build on that to get it closer. It's already way better than what they shipped!

So for those of you that painted your gear/struts/hubs, what's the trick to getting them degreased enough to spray Rustoleum onto? This oil that gets everywhere from the shocks won't seem to clean off no matter what I'm using.

I haven't worked much on the F-4 exhaust nozzles. I've been working on other details and just getting it to reliably fly.

I have sprayed my 1/6 BVM F16 nozzle.

After the black and silver, I sprayed the center brownish color with a camo paint that I had in stock. In the light brown, I mixed in gold flakes made for epoxy. Jammed the spray nozzle a lot. I would use more of a gold paint next time.

Then I use House of Kolor Cobalt Blue Kandy and Purple Kandy. The candies are more translucent allowing the silver base coat to reflect. Opaque blues, purples and reds block out the silver.

These pictures are inside the house. They look better in the sun.

Kandy is the secret.

Hysol some mounting blocks/plates to the tank, bolt to mounting blocks hysoled to the fuselage floor. Tank is secure and can be removed.

That's what I'll probably end up doing as per the instruction pics. Just seeing if anyone had any nifty improved methods. Never fails that as soon as I put hysol on something, I see a more clever way to do it.

You are absolutely right! So many are afraid to tackle an issue, or assemble, build, and paint a model, for the fear of messing up. You have to have the attitude that if you mess up, you simply sand or cut it off. And do it again. You may need to make new parts, fiberglass and prime something again, and again, and again sometimes for me! 😂😎
But you need to look at it as a learning lesson of what not to do the next time. And to improve your skills and talents. But, eventually, it is what it is and time to fly.

I finally rounded third on this baby. Exhaust system installed, fuel system installed, landing gear installed with conversion to 2mm tubing, doors ALMOST done (rigged, mounted, painted except for red border), air system done, lighting system done (Booma RC). plug-in wings done...

Just need to finish painting the gear doors, tidy up the servo lead terminations, sequence the gear and doors and fuel this girl up! She might see air before the New Year!

Yea it’s a drogue chute. Works great until your chute release Servo craps out. That’s a project for this spring. Landing and then popping the chute is just cool AF and it helps minimize wear and tear on tires from Brake usage
