Introducing the Top RC Model Odyssey - New sport jet - build thread

My Feedback: (25)
My odyssey and my predator fly very different. The odyssey is more like a pattern style ship and flies perfectly straight lines and does big beautiful aerobatics very well. My predator is better for 3D style maneuvers. It snaps, tumbles, and spins but isn’t as Precise.
i run a Sw140b in the odyssey and find it to be perfect power. I had the 140 in my predator and was underwhelmed. After trying several motors, it took a 210 to make me happy with the predator.
Dry weight with fuel in uat:
Odyssey 29.35lb
Predator 31.45lb

I've decided to go a different route and ordered a CARF Ultra Flash Evo, as it's more for speed(as am I) but does point/slow rolls/ loops/knife edge just fine and looks cool doing it, while pushing the 199.9mph stupid USA speed limit.

One of my retract goes down only if speed is low. I think the motor is weak and taking too many amps and shutting down. From where I could get a replacement motor ? Factory does not answer mails..

adding a copy of my post:
Hello Guys,
i would like to share my CG / Throws settings for the Odyssey Sport Jet. these settings would help anyone who is building one have a good starting point.
Note: All measurements are taken at control surface root.
Ailerons: 28mm both ways (will probably add some differential in the future), 45% Expo
Elevator: 28mm both ways, 30% Expo
Rudder: 50mm both ways, 30% Expo
Flaps Takeoff: 25mm with 2mm down elevator compensation
Flaps Landing: 80mm with 4mm down elevator compensation
Cortex Gyro gain: 60%
CG: currently 220mm back from leading edge at wing root, i recommend starting with 215mm.
Total weight with UAT full, full cockpit + pilot figure, 5000 mAh 2S Lipo hardcase Turbine battery and two 2200mAh 2S Lipo Rx batteries - 13.97Kg.
For me these settings make a very easy to fly, very predictable Jet.
I do hope they help others as well.
Thanks for reading,
Lior Zahavi
Edit 16/12/17:
I have tested crow mix with full flaps and it works very well on the Odyssey, and these are the numbers:
with full flaps applied, the ailerons go UP 12.5mm (measured at root) and elevator compensation increases to 7mm down measured at root.
this gives you much more drag, model descends and slows down faster and stall speed is even lower - it works great and is highly recommended.

thanks for the info. I still don't think it flies different enough for my taste and flying style, and I find the predator quite precise, for a jet. 210 in it would be fun! We estimate 175-180 straight and level with my 170, and that's probably all it's comfortable doing. I know it's not a speed jet, but a fast pass is always fun. I'm sure it would be in the Odyssey, too.

Looks nice in the pictures, got nice feedback here and remind me the SM Dragon G2 by shape, that i really like, so I purchase one, just because...
Now, after about 60% ready, I just wish it will fly good, because the kit itself is crap.
No QC what so ever.
I got a defective wing (That replaced by SkyToys, great service from his side).
The pain job is amateur at best, ****ty 3D printed case for the retracts controller (I designed new one), low (very low) quality of the plywood parts (cracking and de-laminating sound is part of the build process).
One of the hinges from the rudder was broken, and the paint peeled of off the cockpit.
The inside of the fuselage looks like they had no idea how to put the fiberglass in the mould...
Two of the six nuts that connecting the two fuselage parts are defective.
The accessories are, well, you know... So I replaced them with something descent, from HobbyKing and so on.... many other small crappy things.
This kit is a toy grade crap!
Even the early jets from JL where better quality.
But it came well packed
If someone is in the market for an Odyssey, mine is for sale.

I have seen a couple u close. You 'kinda' get what you pay for. A couple friends picked up a couple Aspires back when they were on like a $1250US "flash" sale. IMO, that's about what they are worth with shipping included. I like the looks of the Odyssey, and it flies OK, but glad I went with a CARF Rebel classic instead.

The "low cost" should not mean ZERO QC.
Mine was with a defective wing, the skin was NOT attached to the profiles.
Anyway, Toprc is not in the same league as CARF, even FB is light years ahead.
