Am I the only one who thinks the price of the gear on these models is getting way over the top?
Almost 3000 Euros from CARF and this doesn’t include wheels, brakes or air kit
1000usd to convert to electric!
I would love one of these kits, and would probably be happy to stretch to the price of the kit itself, but there is no way I am spending that sort of money on retracts. It wouldn’t be so bad if they were completely reliable but I have it on good authority that they aren’t.

It's not particularly well advertised on Carf's site but you can order electrified gear with wheels and brakes for just over €3000. Matrix also offers a better deal if you go direct. While it's not cheap, to do it properly does require rather a lot of work and in a world where we all need to charge the going rate for our services - maybe it's just the price for getting a person with the correct skills to do the job.

Whether the gear is 2000 or 4000 it’s not going to change someone who really has interest in putting a 20k jet in the air.
18,000 or 20,000 is not going to make a difference, so it’s just hot air.

My matrix gear were $3200. Electric and they included the wheels. Machined scale wheels with behotec rubber, not DUBRO foam.....
I think this price is very fair considering how much work was put into them and they aren't made in high volume. There are two or there people making gear for this plane, I doubt there will be 250 sets of gear made between the them.

Chipping away. Go the front tray done, and the pipes in... waiting to install the turbines until I Have most everything else done, don't want the extra weight to move around. Only thing I will have near the air brake is the three shut off valves. Thanks Peter Agnew for making the awesome tray! Would have sucked trying to trial and error this bad boy...

Dantley - I'm going with the CARF electric set as well. If it's painted as the pictures I've seen with the nicer wheels and brakes it should be very good. I'm looking in to whether I use servos or actuators for the gear doors so I can pretty much remove the air system all together. Andreas says servos apparently but would be interesting to know if anyone has found actuators that work for the job?

I just finished all the cylinders on my doors, wasn't terrible to put them in. The big rear main door would be tough to put a servo... they make a little cutout just for a cylinder.
I was going to use linear servos, but Phil Noel, who has done of few of these planes, advised against it. The firgelli are too big and square, the electrons work, but they aren't proportional... no idea why. These are the ones Phil suggested not to use. Trust his opinion.

Thanks! Using the Intairco trays helps a lot if I do end up retaining a load of the air system for the doors, at least everything can be easily accessed with the nose off.
I've not seen anyone really come up with a good way of electrifying the speed brake, so if that has an air system it's no massive hardship to retain the full air system for the doors as well. It just would have been nice to come up with a solution to run electric gear and and the electron type controller I have with the Mephisto that will then sequence all the doors etc as well.

My Carf SU27
Hi I am Marcus from Germany and I also build a Carf SU27 last Winter and Summer 2018. It was not easy because we have a srict law in Germany that we can not fly over 25kg wet. So I had to make a lot of changes not to get too heavy. In September I had the maiden flight with the SU and three more flights. She flying great and I am thrilled! In this winter i will do the paint job and looking forward to the next season.
Here are some informations to my build:
2 x B100F engines - 12kg trust each
Powerbox champion SRS
titanium thrust tubes
only 2 x 50kg servos for both tailerons
no funktional slats
2 fuelbags
selfmade landing gears with beotec parts and elektron parts
selfmade Cockpit with some Carf parts
unilight lights
