Super Chief - How far are you from Americus? If you haven't been over to fly at Mac Hodges' place, do yourself a favor and make the trip.

CG question....putting a Saito 180 in mine and the engine weighs about 31 oz (880 g)...if everything else is 'normal' will I need to place the battery (NiCad) in the recommended location to balance it or should I use a LiPoly (light) there? Suggestions and/or good guesses would be welcomed.....lot of variables here but take a guess anyway [sm=72_72.gif]

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
I would put your Gee Bee on the balancer & then use the battery to find your balance point.
I found with this model there are plenty of locations to mount your battery to achieve your
CG with out having to add dead weight ....& my model was very nose heavy with the 170R3 !!.
you'll probably find yours needs to be forward of the CG mark at a guess , but chuck her on the balancer first & see where you are .
Regards Steff.

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
RACJ, the Saito 170R3 weighs 46 oz. plus about 4.5oz for the exhaust ring. I have one in my Gee Bee Y and it does quite well. It ended up being one pound heavier than the Saito 150 I took out of it but the plane didn't seem to mind it. I had to move the battery as far back in the fuse as I could get it and add four oz. of lead. If your flying scale with some normal aerobatics it does fine. The sound is killer. I also put a radial in my T-28. A Saito 90. I love the sound.

It's not that it offends, it just doesn't have anything to do with the thread and just fills the thread up with meaningless posts. The is one of the biggest reasons people ask the same questions over and over again here on R/C Universe because the threads get filled with dribble. There are other avenues and resources on RCU for networking and chatting with buddy's.

but, as you can see even though this has veered of topic it has given me a contact to a possible long lost friend, a possible new friend
which enjoys the same interests as I and also a lead to a good flying field which are few and far between which would go unread or known in a PM. But as you also can see the forum has not lost it's content but only left the subject for a few brief posts. I am very much interested in all of the aircraft mentioned in the posts and gain more knowledge each one I read. I really am chastised by your post and will try to keep my comments to a minimum but the flying season has passed and time to learn new things and catch up with past people we have come in contact with.
Thank you for reading this and I will now refrain from further comment and just listen.

RACJ ,skysfallin is correct with the weight of the 170R3 & collector ring (1350g ) & for this model I mounted the flight Battery & the glow driver Battery behind the wing under the pilot to obtain the CG.

Lighten up Foolish. Nobody's hijacked the thread and it isn't all that hard to skip the posts you don't want to read. Heck, I skip yours all the time

Tailskid, I guess I will re-cover all of my planes in camo.
That way I will not be confused and just call them all "warbirds"
By the way, which plane is yours that Chad took and put on the 1/8 forum on this site?

I like the attitude of your club Jerry, "If it looks like or even resembles a warbird come fly it at the 1/8th AF fly in." Heck, if it even looks like an airplane regardless of the paint "come fly it at the 1/8th AF Fly-in.

And yes, I miss all three great fields on AZ/

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
Perfect day here in New England, no wind. Flew my GeeBee today. OS 160 running perfect and pulls real nice with the APC 18x6W. Still makes me nervous to land but you just have to keep some power on and fly her right in, cut the power when it is just above the strip. Very impressive, everybody loves this plane, the way it flies and looks. Had one issue with one of the landing gear forks turning to the side a bit, used a 4mm wrench and tightened up, will see if that was good enough or else I have to take the whole strut apart and fix.

More pictures of project. I reinforced the landing gear with copper wire and solder. So far, the only part of this plane I do not like are the foam wheels. I may get some rubber wheels prior to placing the wheel pants.

My high speed, telescoping, high fangled landing gear struts are both angled outward a good 5-10 degrees...anyone want to guess which bolt I un-tighten to put in a bit of toe-in? My first thought was the bolt underside of the "U" bracket....what's your thoughts?

RE: Seagull Gee Bee Z
Be careful, that bolt has turned out to be my weak link in my landing gear. Even though there are 2 set screws, the U continues to turn on any landing that is less than perfect. I have retightened a few times. I may take them out a JB Weld them in a fixed position.
