I trimmed mine, then taped them in place. Then I bolted the wing on tight to set the fillets. I re-taped them with lots of tape and removed the wing. Then I CyA'ed the bottoms of them that touch the wing seat. This holds them. Then I used canopy glue around the top parts by slightly pulling them away from the fuse since it dries clear and is easy to clean up. Tape them again and leave them overnight. Worked perfect on mine, no gaps and not a single smear.

I Did pretty much them same as above but instead of canopy glue I used black silastic which molded in well , & also has alittle bit of give in it.
& once I clear coated it ,it look's part of the fillet.

OK, well call me a glutton for punishment but I bought a replacement yesterday. Hobby Services is replacing my faulty OS 120 with an OS 160 (head bolts came out of 120 on the 4th flight. not pretty). I am doing a bunch of things different this time, changed 2mm rods for 256 rod with updated clevises. Using Horizon Titanium pushrods for the ailerons. The 160 should give this beast plenty of power and now will be able to swing a bigger prop. Still using Dubro 5" wheels, modified flying wires to hold wheel pants in position so that the wheels don't hit them. I have always wanted a Gee Bee and the Seagull seems so much better that the popular Great Planes version. It looks spectacular in the air and lands like a trainer, what more can you ask for? Build it right and pay attention to the landing gear, thread lock all of the little screws so they don't come apart, the wheel pants are fragile and not forgiving of rough landings.

Will keep you posted, should get motor on Monday.

I'm curious how others who have the oleo struts attached the flying wires. The only way I could figure it was to unscrew the gear forks and then put the looped ends between the leg and fork, screw in the center.

Don't do it that way. I did the 1st time I put mine together and the wires always got loose and they don't really serve any purpose. I attatched mine directly to the wheel pants now and use the wires as a method of keeping the pants from hitting the tires. I can put even tension to keep the wheels centered in the hole, they work great.

Got my OS 160 today. It is all mounted and plumbed. Just have to balance and I am ready for maiden #2. I am not sure what prop I am going to use, probably start with an APC 18x6W. The wide blade will give it more bite outside the big cowl. I should have built my original with the 160 but tried to save a few bucks and went with the 120. I will be so much more happier with the bigger motor. Will have more information after the maiden, hopefully this weekend.

I have a 18x10 prop on my OS 160fx on my staggerwing and my hangar 9 p-47. I might run a 18x8 on the p-47. So if you are not happy with the 18x6w try a 18x8. I have two videos on you tube under klmelj username.

I can not believe this plane has not sold out yet, and I can not wait til I can get it.

Went to the field before it got dark tonight. Started engine, got idle and transition right and went to do the maiden. With the OS 160, swinging an APC 18x6w @ 8600 rpm, she took off in about 15 feet. A little bit of trim and it was flying perfect. Plenty of power but it did have too much elevator as it snapped out of 1st loop. Decided to land and fix. Nice smooth decent, maybe a little too slow, bounced and flipped on landing, maybe touched elevator. Anyway, no damage, very happy with new combination and I built it better this time and should be a nice flying plane added to my already sizable collection.

Anyone replace the supplied, pre-installed pushrods?

Yes, read previous posts. I reworked plane and replaced all supplied hardware. 2mm pushrods are not strong enough.

Any recommendations on how to remove the installed pushrods and replace them with something else? I can't find that reference in this thread and I know it is in there somewhere! thanks,

jf

Just take of the clevis from one end of the pushrod, pull it out and replace with a 256 rod.

If you didn't have so many airplanes to review you would have remembered that.

Got a quick question for thos that have flown their "Z's". Is the tail wire bracing needed on the tail or just for looks on the model? The full scale has it and I would like to put it on if it is needed. Thanks

There is NO tail wire bracing on this model. The flying wires are on the forward edge of the wing and go to the landing gear. Look at the directions, as bad as they are.

Yea, I miss those days too. Clubs are few and far between here in GA. Too many people have their own sod farms and fly from there.
I would enjoy that too except it looks like too much partying and not enough flying. I bought out a small estate sale and now I really do have more stuff than I can count. I would trade it out if I could get the B29 I posted over in the one-eighth forum
RE: One Eighth Air Force scale fun fly pics - 10/28/2009 2:29 PM.
Hope to get to one of those events before I get too old.
Good to hear from you.

The last time I thought about your comments.
Received it; thought about it; laughed about it; forget about it.
I call it networking with my peers and a couple howdy do's help to find other lost or forgotten friends.
Sorry if this offends you.

It's not that it offends, it just doesn't have anything to do with the thread and just fills the thread up with meaningless posts. The is one of the biggest reasons people ask the same questions over and over again here on R/C Universe because the threads get filled with dribble. There are other avenues and resources on RCU for networking and chatting with buddy's.
